Project Description

THE AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE OF MUSIC (AIM)

Architect / Designer – Fender Katsalidis Australia

The restoration and upgrade of The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) heritage listed urban campus, set right in the heart of Sydney involved staged works to ensure there was limited disruption to the everyday activities of students and staff. Here the brief was to create new student facilities that would encourage meaningful collaboration, innovation and creativity; while other areas needed to promote spaces for quiet reflection and focus on academic study. The works included renovation of one building to create a new dance space, two new movement areas and a graduate chill-out zone. Four studios here were also integrated into a combined audio/ production space, and two brand new production suites were created. A portion of the other building was demolished to create a new open and collaborative space with natural lighting, including a new café and performance area
